Indiana Health Law Review Submission Guidelines

Editorial Policies
The Indiana Health Law Review (“IHLR”) will publish health law articles of current interest to professionals and scholars in the fields of health care, health law and related areas. The Indiana Health Law Review Editorial Board particularly seeks articles critically analyzing significant legal developments and public policy issues in the field of health law.

Selection and Editing
On receipt, the editors will acknowledge the submission of manuscripts or article commitments. The evaluation process generally takes six (6) to eight (8) weeks. Authors will be notified of manuscript decisions within one to three months of receipt, depending on the length of the manuscript. Accepted manuscripts will be published as quickly as possible, usually within three (3) to eight (8) months of acceptance. Decisions to accept or reject papers are based on the Editors’ judgment.

Submitting Manuscripts
Online submissions should also include a brief author bio or CV, an abstract, and the manuscript. Articles may be submitted in hard copy, or online via Expresso or Scholastica, or by emailing ihlr@iupui.edu.

Submission Length
Shorter Articles may be between 5,000 and 10,000 works. For full law review articles 10,000 to 25,000 words is appropriate. Blog posts should be no more than 2,500 words.

Return of Manuscripts
For file purposes, the Indiana Health Law Review retains one (1) copy of all papers submitted for consideration. Copies are not returned to an author unless the author so requests in writing and supplies the IHLR with a return address envelope and adequate postage.

Copyright
Authors are required to execute a copyright release and publishing agreement provided by the IHLR.

Abstracts
A short abstract (normally of not more than 200 words), succinctly summarizing the content of the manuscript, should accompany the manuscript on a separate sheet.

Manuscript Preparation
All manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, and on 8.5” x 11” paper. Please provide two (2) copies of your submission (single-sided only), along with a cover letter on which you must state (1) your address, (2) your telephone and fax numbers, (3) your email address, and (4) a brief biography of each author. The biography should state only the author’s present title and institution or corporate affiliation. Articles may be submitted in hard copy, or online via Scholastica or by emailing ihlr@iupui.edu.

Diskettes
Diskettes are not necessary at the submission stage. If a manuscript is accepted, the author must provide a word processing file. Files should be in Word for Windows, on a 3.5” disk. Other formats may be acceptable, but must be cleared through the Executive Managing Editor before submission.

Figures and Diagrams
All figures, diagrams and tables must be camera-ready. The editors will not create figures, diagrams or tables. We prefer them on diskette, preferably as separate files. If this is not possible, submit them on white or transparent paper or on glossy print so that they can be processed accordingly. If one has questions about suitability, please contact our Editorial Office. Figures, diagrams and tables are to be numbered consecutively, with Arabic numerals. Please ensure that you indicate in the text’s margin the most appropriate location for each figure.

References
Footnotes to sources must be numbered consecutively and double-spaced. All footnotes should conform to the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (current edition). If an article is accepted, the Law Review may require the author to provide a hard copy of sources that are difficult to locate.
